Shuffle the music tag

Third music post in a row, fun innit!? (Well I think it is, suspecting I’m the only one tho, especially since no one called me out on using the wrong goddamn translation in previous post, buuuttttt…I don’t seem to care?)

I was tagged by the lovely Lise over → here, thanks! 🙂

The Rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog
2. Shuffle your entire music library and talk about the FIRST FIFTEEN songs that come up
3. Mention the songs as well as the artists
4. Tag 7 people or more to do this tag and let them know

As you may know, unless you’re super new here, I do love to rant about the music I listen to. In fact, it is the reason this blog even exists; I was looking for blogs ranting about music, found none, so I had to do it myself.

Still looking. So far no luck, far too few rants about music in my feed. V. disappointing.

That being said, I do encourage you to consider yourself tagged and do this tag! (..and that’s all the tagging I’ll be doing…)

Before we get into the 15 songs, is it at all possible to shuffle your entire music library? I’m genuinely curious.

I for one can’t; my music library consists of a number of different formats so it simply cannot be done.

Theoretically, I could save most of it to Spotify. Most of it. Die Ärzte and my all-time favorite record Relief through Release by Tura Satana never seem to stick. Also, if I’m being honest, and despite the big CD decluttering of 2017, can’t remember all CDs I still own. And then there’s the stuff I have on an external hard drive…I’ve got some interesting things, you know, from back when Napster was a thing.

So what I’ve done is opened Spotify, selected Tracks and shuffled.

Let’s go!

Dead by April; Last Goodbye
Dead by April is what I listen to for some energy, which apparently I haven’t needed lately. Could not have told you what song this was if I tried. Unless you’d settle for catchy metal number? Pop song with a bit of metal added for good measure? You know, typical Dead by April track?

Bear’s Den; The Love we Stole
Er. Yes. Bear’s Den is a new favorite. But so far, I only like their most recent release, the album Red Earth & Pouring Rain. This is from a previous release which I’ve been meaning to remove from my saved tracks because I don’t get it.

Thrice; The Window
This is probably the most anonymous track off of their 2016 release To Be Everywhere is to be Nowhere to me; I need to listen to it to remember it. That being said, the album was one of my favorite releases of 2016. But if I was recommending you a track off of this record, it’d be Black Honey.

In This Moment; Scarlet
Yes, when it comes to In This Moment, I only listen to the hits.

Casey; Cavities
Mentioned just about a zillion times in this here blog before. Not the track maybe but the band. I do love Casey. This track though, is probably not for beginners. I’d say start with Ceremony or Little Bird.

Dead by April; Empathy
I dunno what to say. Your typical Dead by April track, but again, maybe not one I’d recommend. If you’re in the mood for some Dead by, then you might as well, but I wouldn’t add it to any playlist.

The Amity Affliction; Anchors
This is starting to look an awful lot like a list of songs I don’t particularly care for. I love Amity, you know I love Amity, but this track isn’t miserable enough in my opinion. ..which isn’t saying much. I’ve listened to this track at least 64 times, so you know. I don’t hate it.

Dead by April; Abnormal
OK look, Dead by April is v. close to guilty pleasure. It’s not exactly the first band that comes to mind when asked about what music I listen to. I wouldn’t hide it, but I would probably argue that it’s mainly for energy/workout playlists. Truth is I was obsessed for quite a big chunk of time. Still a strange obsession because usually, whatever band you obsess about you want to see play live. Not so with Dead by April. It’s their image. Rubs me the wrong way.

Linkin Park; From the Inside
Just reading the title, I couldn’t tell you what track that is. I mean I recognize the title, but the melody/lyrics is a blank to me. Scrobbled 3 times since 2015. So ja, that would be why.

Korn; Somebody someone
I am starting to question what tracks I’ve saved on Spotify. This is another barely listened to track, scrobbled twice. And I can tell you, if it’s up to me, it’s not going to be scrobbled again.

In Flames; With Eyes Wide Open
Finally! A track I know and love! This one I’ve added to a number of playlists. And can I just say that the album this track is on, Siren Charms, is so underrated.

Recoil; Last Call for Liquid Courage
If I was listing my all-time favorite albums, this album, Liquid, would be on it. I’ve ranted about it before. In case you’re unfamiliar with Recoil, it’s the solo project of Alan Wilder, who used to be in Depeche Mode (who we all wish was still in Depeche, or at least would come back, and soon!). He’s gathered such an incredible group of singers for this record, contributing to its menacing sound. Samantha Coerbell, a spoken word performer, is on vocal duty on this track.

Being as an Ocean; Floating through Darkness
Ah yes, another album love I’ve gushed about before. This is one of the instrumental tracks on the record, simple melody on a piano.

Deaf Havana; St. Paul’s
Now the bells of St. Paul’s ring out in my head—Oh just go listen to it!

Bear’s Den; Agape—Live at Melkweg
Nooo, Spotify, you were on such a roll. Why are you giving me this??

Well, Spotify, that was quite a poor round of shuffling on your part; I take absolutely no responsibility for the results.

..but I might be off to edit my saved tracks…

Your 2017 Wrapped

Can we just talk about the Spotify Wrapped for a minute!?

I am so in love.

Honestly, after last year’s failure I was worried they’d mess up this year too, and some of us would end up not getting our end of the year summaries. The horror!

Apparently, this year, they’re not sending us emails. Instead, there’s the Wrapped app, and as a user it’s entirely up to you if you want to find out what you’d been listening to.

Which you should! This was such a thoughtful and fun summary.

Let’s run through it.

While last.fm gives me plenty stats, I still like seeing the numbers.

119969min

Quite surprised I managed to fit in 707 different artists, considering the absolute ridiculous amount of time I still spend listening to Architects, Bring Me and Amity Affliction.

I love it that they made it into a bit of a quiz, even if the answers were obvious.

This alternative metal genre, by the way, is new to me. Even so, figured that was probably what I spent most of my time listening to. Because that’s how obvious I am.

The goal bit, is..a bit cheesy?

And can we talk about acting my age. Are you telling me I’m acting too much my age? Really? Also, this illustration didn’t help. I’m 100% confused:

Agept2

What does it mean?? Art rock? Pixi? What you on about?? And what exactly is it my age proves??

As per usual, I do like that they give you a playlist including your favorite tracks of the year. The other playlist though….

Getaway

I like it in theory; I opened it and looked at it in horror. Won’t be opening that again.

I know what I like, and that ain’t it.

There’s one goal Spotify clearly missed out on: branch out, maybe listen a little less to Architects.

spotify-2017-wrapped

How did you like your 2017 Wrapped? Any surprises?

Dream lineup

This post is a part of the Endless Blog Challenge, which I introduced/created on Sunday.

This prompt asks participants in the challenge to list four bands that should do a tour together.

There is a reason I’m asking for four. It is the perfect number. Have you been to gigs where more than four bands are playing? It’s excruciating. Too long. And more often than not, there will be at least one band that’s just not your cup of tea.

Funny thing is, my dream lineups either are or have at one point in time been touring. The one problem is that they insist on touring where/when I cannot go.

Or well I could. But then I’d have to live off of rice and lentils for the rest of the year. Which is probably where I draw the line.

Here’s an example!

Amity, Alazka and Casey all on the same tour!??!

..not too keen on Counterparts but let’s ignore that for now.

I have done extensive research. Getting to any of these places and not paying a small fortune is difficult. Put mildly. November, December and January are decidedly terrible months to be traveling from Sweden.

Since apparently Europe = German speaking countries, Berlin could be done. But they’re not playing Berlin. (??? Has to be a mistake ???) So I’m assuming they’ve done this on purpose. They’re targeting me specifically, making sure I can’t go. Or maybe to test how badly I want to go? It is one of them two for sure. (Oh yes, the world revolves around me, didn’t you know?)

Other bands also touring terrible places:

Stray from the Path; at least they have the decency to tour a reasonable time of year (October) but Södertälje…? Who plays in Södertälje??? Of all places! Or some non-central place in the general Gothenburg area? That’s a no go. But if I’m being honest, Stray is, at this point in time, the band I’m most keen to see.

Northlane; They’re in the UK late November, and I’m there’s early November, so that doesn’t work, and then Gothenburg in December. Yess.. I can see it now. Stuck on a cold train in the middle of nowhere Sweden in December. I’m going with no…

Thrice; Now if only Thrice could bring Stray along. Or the other way around, doesn’t really matter. I’d even consider the US, which is where they’re touring next.

Architects; They are touring early 2018. January/February in other countries. I feel as if attendance is mandatory. London? Berlin? At the same time. I’m not sure I’m willing to go anywhere that time a year. If they were bringing Stray (det var då ett jävla tjat?!), I could maybe change my mind. They often do, but not this time. For shame

Conclusion

1. I am one whiny fan.

2. Current dream line-up:

Thrice // Stray from the Path // Northlane // Casey

I’d disregard my budget entirely for this lineup at any venue in Glasgow. Any!

Anywhere else: budget might come into play.

3. I live in the wrong place. And I’m not even moving anywhere near the right place. FFS.

August wrap up

Listened to

Music has to stop. There are too many good new releases. This month we were treated to:

New Pvris track Winter. Best one so far!? The album is lovely too of course.

New Alazka track Ghost. Again, best one so far!? Previous ones, not bad. So looking forward to the album release, which, by the way, is tomorrow.

Brilliant new Foxblood release, Bittersweet:

This alternate version of Xcert’s Feels Like Falling in Love I’m absolutely mad about. Melancholy with a Thåström-type piano. (A fave type of piano playing, because I ♥ simple. You may want to compare and contrast with Thåström’s Sönder Boulevard btw, it’s a fun little exercise.)

Happy Spotify is keeping me up to date? Not sure.

As if that wasn’t enough. Suddenly learned to love Stray from the Path. So I like hardcore now???

Watched

This quite recent NIN show:

Had an epiphany. Or. It made me realize that Korn’s current setlist does makes sense. (Wasn’t entirely sure in this here post.) Because, Korn playing the entire of The Serenity of Suffering, (which is what I would like) would be like NIN playing all of their most recent release forsaking all others. That wouldn’t be great.

Also. WHY did I bother with Korn when there’s NIN? (The answer is of course Jonathan Davis, but never mind…)

…I’m just hoping no one who was ever in NIN will ever release a biography. Ever. Because I suspect they were/are no better than Fieldy. And if any of them already did, don’t tell me, I don’t want to know.

Oh my god I’m off track now, let’s get to the point already: How have I still not seen this band live??? There has to be something wrong with me. Need Europe dates asap!

Meanwhile. Amity Affliction + Casey + Alazka and Architects all have tour dates coming up. How to choose???

If we could just get back to the watching theme of this section…

YouTube finally recommended me Jamie Genevieve. Because how else does one find anything? Been binge watching like a madwoman.

She makes me want to make an actual effort when putting on makeup + buy all the things. So. Good and bad all at the same time.

American Gods. Got the DVDs because I couldn’t figure out how to stream in Sweden. (Other countries yes, Sweden no.) It’s…do we like this??

Twitter was great

Imagine it’s 1992 and Axl Rose tweets this about Metallica/James Hetfield:

That should give you some idea of the position Amity Affliction + Architects hold in my universe, and explain why I find this tweet insanely entertaining. Because Axl Rose would never ever have said this about Metallica, or vice versa, even if there had been a Twitter in 1992.

A favorite from Muralgranskaren:

English: This, my brothers, is in Truth Black Metal-Singing.

(And yes, it is weird use of language in Swedish too.)

Just one more! My fave feminist:

English: Humanism—when you want to make yourself look like a nice person but not change anything.

And. Nobody missed SamArchitects doing the right thing, as per usual, right?

Basically. Architects just keep making everyone else look really bad. Have I mentioned lately that I love this band? L O V E.

But seriously. If this wasn’t in your feed, there is something very wrong with your feed. Hell, Stylist Magazine tweeted about it. Lord knows why, but they did.

Reading

If you haven’t read Roxane Gay’s Hunger yet you need to get to it!

Rediscovered

The shade Maple in the kinda horrible Sleek Ultra Mattes V2 palette. It looks like it should be brown/orange, but on me it’s definitely 100% a red/pink bruise type shade. And it’s amazing. The shade Thunder is also not bad. Excellent crease color for blue looks.

20,000 days on Earth. I usually love the Nick Cave documentaries, this one just didn’t speak to me at all. Until now.

Using

Urtekram lotion that smells like rosemary. It doesn’t sound too exciting but I love this scent.

Monthly menstrual report

Menstrual cup research, this one’s great if you feel like you want some encouragement:

Unfortunately, I then went on to watch a few less positive videos. Currently unsure that a menstrual cup would work for me. Because:

a. Cannot find my cervix for the life of me.
b. Cannot be having something that might be pushing on my bladder because if I pee anymore frequently, I may as well move into the bathroom. All liquids seem to just go straight through me. (Unless I drink too much tea. Can’t be it?)

Good news: stopped being regular sooo there is hope yet I won’t have to resort to the menstrual cup!?

And in the event I’m back to regular, I’ll just refer to this Tweet:

English: The menstrual cup is great and all, but could people stop making women’s bodily functions seem like environmental problems?

Unlikely though. My period was especially sneaky and difficult to predict this month. None of the usual symptoms and random point in time. Not that it matters much, it was of the light flow variety, so not really something worth spending this many words on. Probably. I ♥ talking menstruation tho. So. Ja.

Reminder

Don’t get cats, they die on you.

The Happiness Tag

This tag is slightly overdue as I’ve been away from my desktop. Yeayea, I know it is possible to post via mobile devices but I just cannot be arsed. Too much effort. For me.

I was tagged by Lise, now let’s go!

The rules

  • List five things that makes you happy
  • Share five songs that makes you happy
  • Tag at least five bloggers that makes you happy

Five things

Coming home. I wasn’t far away. I’ve been staying at my parent’s house the past week, keeping the cats company while my parents were off hiking. It was nice, it is still home in a way. Even so. Coming home home, to my apartment, makes me v. v. happy. I want to argue that it’s because for my uses, my home is practical. Practical makes me happy.

And also. My things. People who say things don’t make you happy lie. They do. It might be temporary, but still. I take anything I can get.

Cat company. I always feel so special when cats choose to hang out with me. In truth, I’m about as special as a piece of furniture, but never mind that! Prefer it when they choose to lie next to me tho, as opposed to on.

This guy, for example, does not generally keep this distance:

final1502476195491.jpg

He prefers to be as close to your face as is possible. For me, this is the perfect distance. Means you can get up and make a cup of tea, do a load of laundry, water the plants, or any of the bizillion things my brain comes up with. It doesn’t seem to be a big fan of sitting still for more than 15 minutes at a time.

Feminists. In general. Feminists are without a doubt some of the funniest people. A recent example: assholesonline. Let me explain. This account is run by Linnea Claesson. She receives a threat from some guy, as per usual, this one says he’s going to “get his boys and visit her” unless she takes down a picture she’s posted. She refuses. Which is enough for me to cheer.

It gets better.

She posts this little clip (watch watch watch!):

The sign on the door reads Welcome Fredrik (name of the guy) and in brackets and his boys. In the caption she’s written I don’t get visitors too often so I’m VERY excited!

The fact that someone had this idea at all makes me insanely happy.

It doesn’t end here.

Dinner with Fredrik and his boys. She’s set the table and is waiting.

As I was saying. Feminists are hilarious.

Super enthusiastic people. You know, people like Beth Ditto.

Vegan option! A vegan option that has been making me quite happy lately, is this ice cream:

final1502615212374.jpg

This is not only the best vegan ice cream, it is better than their non-vegan ice cream. I.e. it is creamier, and the flavor is all there.

PS. They also make dairy and soy free ice cream, in case you’re not a fan of the soy. It has a rice base and it’s just as nice.

Future plans. As in future plans to have time off work to go somewhere to see a band.

If I thought some more about going to the UK to see Deaf Havana, I’d be a slightly less miserable person. Can’t quite seem to remember to tho.

Five songs

In general, happy songs do not make me happy.

There is one glaring exception: Die Ärzte. I can’t quite explain this. I don’t think they do anything except for happy songs. Is it because I read their happy as sarcasm?

I’ve already mentioned their Monsterparty which always and without fail puts a smile on face because it’s beyond ridiculous, but I guess 3-Tage-Bart isn’t far behind?

…and you kinda need to understand German for this to make any sense at all. If it wasn’t for the lyrics, I’d never listen to this. In fact I didn’t, until my German was good enough for me to understand what the songs were about.

The type of songs that frequently do make my happy, are songs like Stray from the Path’s First World Problem Child.

Because aggressive. I like it.

There is also something about Diamanda Galás that makes me happy. Her mere existence makes me happy.

Like feminists, that someone would even think about doing what she does, it makes me happy. For example, she did an entire record of screaming, called Schrei X. It not exactly made for everyday listening, you probably can’t listen to it more often than you would watch a movie. It’s a performance piece I would say.

This is one of her more accessible tracks:

I’m also going to list Thrice’s Black Honey. Because. Not only is it a great track, which in itself is enough to make a person happy, but also. Every time I’ve been to see Architects they play it pre-show, and it makes me v. v. happy to have someone other than myself playing me this song.

Also. Miserable/depressing songs make me happy. Amity Affliction, they just do it so, so well.

Hitherdither? You up for it?

In which I overuse THE HORROR

I don’t always read gig reviews, but when I do, I make sure you know about it.

Not that’s it’s a conscious choice; there usually aren’t any gig reviews I’d be interested in reading. That, or I’m just terrible at finding them.

However. Pinterest is sometimes helpful.

HELLO. Review of the Amity Affliction/Northlane/Stray from the Path/Wage War gig in Glasgow in 2016? I saw them when the tour made a stop in Stockholm, let’s see what Scotland made of it, clickety-click!

Aaaand..it’s a let down. Apparently, the purpose of the review is to demonstrate what a man the writer is.

Like when he comments on the general appearance of Northlane. Singer especially.

[T]heir vocalist Marcus Bridge still looks like Booky Wook author Russell Brand and their music, sadly, is still too niche for me to become an avid fan.

Interpretation: Marcus is too pretty, it will attract the girls. THE HORROR. Metal logic dictates liked by the girls > not heavy enough > if you do like it DON’T ADMIT TO IT. It will make you look like less of a man. That writer guy doesn’t understand why Northlane, third on the bill, gets the biggest audience reaction thus far, is hardly surprising. If you consider what the writer aims to do, failure to understand Northlane’s greatness is expected, but if you’re into the metal made these days, it’s entirely confusing.

As for their music is too niche, isn’t that like saying I only like music that appeals to a great mass of people? Oooorrrrr…? I don’t know why anyone would say that.

And don’t even get me started on the fact that it’s not as if you’d confuse Marcus and Russell Brand.

📸 @moki_mooose

Ett inlägg delat av Northlane (@northlane)

However. I’m not opposed to reviewing the appearance of the band. I think it would benefit gender equality. Women in music are already heavily judged by appearance, why should men in metal bands be any exception?

Specifically. I DO want a review of Wage War’s appearance and style.

I am serious. I need something to work with! The music isn’t doing it for me.

As in, I might, at one point, have been looking for something to throw at them. Not necessarily because they were bad. They just weren’t any fun. Not quite worth sacrificing my NYX Liquid Suede for though.

There’s this interview I keep thinking of. Guy in metal band complained people in bands weren’t allowed to be non-pretty anymore. WHAT BANDS ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT??? Kennt nicht! To me, they all look more or less like Wage War. Pretty or any synonym of the word isn’t exactly appropriate as description, is it?

And besides. What you choose to wear always sends a message. Clothes communicate. You can try and pretend it doesn’t all you want, changes nothing. May as well talk about it. Wage War; clearly not trying to challenge the prevailing world order. But then, this is metal and it’s a very conservative genre, as pointed out by Simon Reynolds and Joy Press in The Sex Revolts decades ago. Which, by the way, you really should give a read if you haven’t already.

Especially if you feel the urge to write things like this:

When The Amity Affliction finally take to the stage just before 9pm there’s a notable change in the atmosphere. … it was more a case of screaming ladies taking over the noise department and for a second I wondered if I’d been teleported to a gig hosted by the anti-christ himself, Justin Bieber.

Oh no. The few girls in attendance made their presence known. THE HORROR. Clearly, we don’t belong at metal gigs, as it needs to be commented on. Clearly, we should stick with Justin Bieber—and I’m assuming he is the antichrist because girls like him. That which girls like=evil.

Meanwhile.

Slightly surprised these guys get away with not a word about appearance. But then he’s already established they’re the girls’ faves, followed up with a final comment on how this gig was the least sweaty and bruised he’d ever been at a gig, therefore he would be unlikely to go again, i.e. Amity Affliction failed to make him feel like a man, which is obviously was this poor bloke uses metal for.

Thank you Stockholm. 📷 @xpeesx #tcbhworldtour

A post shared by The Amity Affliction (@theamityaffliction) on

I’m also confused as to why this is included:

Whilst both [Amity Affliction and Northlane] are considered metal they do have differences in their styles which I will do my best to explain.

Yesss. That’s what we need the review to do, explain the difference between Amity and Northlane. Not as if we could find that out for ourselves by, say, using Spotify? And also, why are Wage War and Stray excluded? I mean they’re all different types of metal. No explanation there??

There never is an explanation though. Unless you count labeling Northlane too niche as an explanation, or the writer’s personal opinion that Amity’s mix of melodic and heavy, well, doesn’t actually mix.

As if there is a contradiction between melodic and metal.

I suppose melodic makes for an easy listen, whereas heavy does not. Melodic music for women, heavy music for men, and thusly don’t mix? That is the reasoning behind it, right?

Obviously the idea that there’s a contradiction is simply inaccurate. Heavy + melodic = BEST MIX /fact.

…even if how to measure the level of heaviness certainly can be discussed. Anyone invent a heavyometer lately? No?

It is clear already from the start that Mr Reviewer Guy prefers the first two bands on the bill, Wage War and Stray from the Path.

Bolstering this tour are two mighty bands from the United States.

(Does my incorrect use of block quotes bother anyone? No?! What about these brackets!?)

This use of mighty. I just don’t approve. Moving on

Despite not being the headliner, SFTP take the title for best band that evening in my opinion.

What’s with the despite? Pretty sure it’s allowed to prefer an opening act to the headliner. Even if the reason is because they don’t make you worry you’ re compromising your manliness.

That being said, despite not being a Stay fan, they do put on a good show. I would repurchase, even if they’re not exactly in my playlist. (Tho the new single is v. v. catchy).

Also. I DO want to talk about is this look:

Berlin tonight

A post shared by Stray From The Path (@strayfromthepath) on

Well that or, the short speech Mr Singer Guy did in Stockholm; he pointed out that the show was for everyone and don’t fucking harass the girls, and if you see someone doing that let them know that’s not OK. (I’m paraphrasing, he said something to that effect, my brain was all Hey! That’s vaguely feminist! put him in the feminist compartment and moved on with its life. My criteria for the feminist label for men in metal are extremely low.)

OK then. I think I’ve demonstrated why gig reviews probably aren’t something I should be reading, even if I’m able to find them. Throws me straight into rant mode it does.

Not that I hate rant mode. Just don’t think other people are that wild about it.

In which I introduce a tag with a short rant

I’ve been roaming around WordPress to find new blogs to follow.

It ain’t going great.

I’m specifically looking for blogs written by people my age, because life advice from 20-somethings..it does get a bit frustrating when you’re no longer 20, and also blogs written by people with similar interests, and/or a more varied content.

Makeup is great and all, but I have other interests too.

Being even more specific…I need more blogs that rant on music related topics. Rant! I don’t want anything under the impression of being objective, no reviews or “let me tell you about this band” because BORING. I want to know about what music people consume, the how, what and when.

I would say I also need more feminist blogs. But there are too many types of feminism that I don’t agree with. Not to mention the ones I’ve stumbled on trying to explain the basics to others while trying to be not too extreme (WTF!? Be extreme or go away). Just makes me want to ram my head in the wall. VALERIE BRYSON, ANYONE?!?

Yes.

I’ll just stick with the feminists I follow on other platforms. Besides, you really only need fannyarsinoe in your life and you’re covered. (YES I’M A FANGIRL, can’t help it.)

What I did find, however, is a good music tag. Next best thing surely!?

I think so. Let’s go!

(Didn’t say where this one is from, thusly no credit.)

Which bands/artist do you own the most albums by?
If we’re talking about physical albums, then Nick Cave. Yes, I kept them when I decluttered. Einstürzende Neubauten is a close second, and only because they haven’t released as many albums. They’re the nicest ones in my collection though, paper casing. Just saying.

The Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus casing tho, also not bad. A favorite track:

What was the last song you listened to?
Blood in My Mouth by Amity Affliction.

In my blog search, I also came across one blogger who complained about how Amity + In Flames (among others) had changed their sound, and not to the better, so I had to do a compare and contrast. Which is a fun little exercise I highly recommend.

Not sure why I felt compelled to, because the whole premise of the post was it is not as heavy thusly it is worse. SIGH. Yes because we all know heavy equals good. JFC.

In addition to which I don’t agree; neither Amity nor In Flames have become less heavy with each release. They sort of vary. Not that it matters! Because heavy doesn’t equal good.

Seems to me people are going to have learn to differentiate between heavy and a more chaotic sound.

Here’s what I’m thinking. There are bands that at the beginning of their career have ideas that they perhaps not quite have the skills to execute, which makes them more creative. This contributes to a more interesting and somewhat chaotic sound, sometimes mistaken for heavy/less accessible, which in turn means fewer people “get it” contributing to whoever does get it feeling that they’re just sooo cool.

It’s so boring I want to cry.

This song tho!

What’s in your CD player right now?

There’s a CD player in my car. If there is a CD in it it’s either All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us by Architects or Relief Through Release by Tura Satana.

If you have somehow managed to not listen to AOGHAU already, you really should give this one track a listen, promise you won’t regret it!

What was the last show you attended?
Architects
in June. They played C.A.N.C.E.R. Not their most accessible track I would say. You?

What was the greatest show you’ve been to?
This sort of assumes that there’s a great difference between shows. I just find that most shows I’ve been to lately, well I mean they’re carried out by competent people, you know? And I’m not overly impressed by people putting on too much of a show.

For example, if I compare the 3 Bring Me the Horizon gigs I’ve been to, I liked the first one the best, the one without all the screens and the arena-size venue. Because the setlist was better and I liked that they were lit from behind. It was a nice effect. I like simple things.

Track that fell off the setlist for the arena tour:

What was the worst show you’ve ever been to?

Erm. I could argue Being as An Ocean because I left after two songs, but I wasn’t there primarily to see Being as an Ocean so that’s a bit unfair. And the main reason for leaving was I was dead tired.

So I’m going to argue 30 Seconds to Mars mainly because:

  1. I still feel Jared is acting the part.
  2. Fine, invite people on stage, but don’t fucking spend 15 minutes picking the exact people to come up. It doesn’t make for a good show.
  3. Bringing out the acoustic guitar. Just nooooo. I’m not saying it’s bad per se, it’s just not my cup of tea.

When they started picking people out of the crowd I left because that’s just where I draw the line.

And anyway. They’d already played The Kill.

Absolutely not seeing them again. No matter how much I love The Kill.

What is the most musically involved you have ever been?
Let’s just say I haven’t been.

What show are you looking forward to?
Deaf Havana
! Brighton!

Also desperately hoping Stray from the Path will add Casey to their UK/Europe tour. It’s extremely unlikely, but my brain is all Capsize is on the bill! They played last time I saw Casey, so maybe!?!??

Yeayea, I’ve got a hangup.

What is your favorite band shirt?

Mmm. Either my Manson one or the Bring Me one.

What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?

I’m not sure I’d want that? What would we do? Go for vegan eats in Glasgow? OH I KNOW. Glasvegas’ Jonna. Because she hangs out in Glasgow. And is from Norrland. I.e. supercool.

And she plays the piano in addition to drums standing. I don’t know how you could be cooler than that?

Who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback?

I don’t really listen a lot to any band that doesn’t exist right now. I mean there’s My Chemical Romance, but unlike the rest of the world, it’s not something I crave. Don’t get me wrong, I love them, but I don’t need them to make a comeback. There are other bands.

Also. I used to want Panik back. They’ve recently made a comeback of sorts. And. I’m not happy about it. It makes me sad.

Because. This:

I don’t understand it.

Who is one band/artist you’ve never seen live but always wanted to?

I’m going to have to say Nine Inch Nails, aren’t I?

Surely there will be a European tour eventually?

Name four or more flawless albums.

Actually flawless and in I wouldn’t skip a single song? Live Through This by Hole, Lost Forever // Lost Together by Architects and All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us by the same band and Deaf Havana’s All These Countless Nights.

Almost made the list: Relief Through Release by Tura Satana. That goddamn Nirvana cover, cannot stand it. Let the Ocean Take Me; the outro of Never Alone makes me cringe, ditto last track of Thrice’s To Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere.

How many concerts have you been to in total?
Not that many in my opinion. Can’t be bothered to count though.

Who have you seen the most live?

Architects. Five times. Which in my opinion isn’t that many. But it depends on your frame of reference I guess.

What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
Trouble Every Day by Tindersticks. It’s on this compilation:

What was your last musical ‘phase’ before you wisened up?
Before I fell into this black hole of post-hardcore type music (it’s what last.fm tells me I to listen to, OK?), I was listening to a lot of singer-songwriter type music, i.e. lots of Richard Hawley, Iain Morrisson, the National, Tindersticks, you know, nice music that doesn’t ask a lot of its listener. I still listen to it, just not as much.

What is your ‘guilty pleasure’ that you hate to admit liking?
I tend to only feel guilty about what ever I’m obsessively listening to at the time, i.e. I feel more guilty about the amount than the actual performer. Except for. I currently feel zero percent guilty that I’m listening to Amity as if there are no other bands.

Think we’ve established I do feel slightly guilty about listening to Korn though. Because they are not with the feminist agenda and I find that problematic.

I obviously tag hitherdither. Anyone else up for a rant about music? I’ll tag you!

Det var då ett jävla tjat om hopp

Självklart har vi favoriten Gone with the Wind och raden hope is a prison, men också Untitled av samma band Hope is a dangerous thing. Tydligen lider de av ett behov att definiera begreppet.

Deaf Havana vill ha mer hopp: I’m not a pessimist but sometimes hope is missed or missing.

Roddy Hart har däremot massor av hopp I have such high hopes for you. Lite av en anomali i den här samlingen.

Ingen är såklart lika besatt av hopp som Amity Affliction. I n g e n. De verkar också ha ett ambivalent förhållande till hopp.

I Farewell menar man att There’s no hope left for me. Fast i början av samma skiva, spår tre för att vara exakt, tyckte man däremot att There is hope in my eyes; there is hope in these words.

Ja alltså egentligen. Så skulle man ju kunna göra en hel lång lista av bara Amity, det finns många MÅNGA exempel att ta av. Från hela deras produktion.

Perfekt uppsatsämne, om det nu är något man är intresserad av.

This has been a quick course in how to alienate any readers; suddenly and without warning switch language.

— END OF PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE POST —

Which, by the way, I think there are far to few of.

3 songs using cancer as metaphor

Korn; Insane. This cancer finds everything I hide. Living my life horrified.

The Amity Affliction; Pittsburgh. It’s like there’s cancer in my blood. It’s like there’s water in my lungs.

Architects; Black Blood. We’ve found the cancer inside our heads. There’s no turning back now, we’re as good as dead.

Two of these, I’m not sure that they..make sense..?

Summer playlist

Ah Spotify, how I love it when you send me here’s what you’ve been listening to emails, especially when it includes a playlist.

And it always does.

Also. This way I can pretend that I have a summer playlist.

I mean I do. But I’m not sure that anything about it says summer.

Unless.

Murder by Within Temptation, does it make you think of summer?

No? Maybe Ropes by In Flames?

What you mean no!?!  What about Shine On by Amity Affliction?

Come on! It has shine in the title. Practically the same as sun.

…if you don’t listen to the lyrics at all.

I’m not complaining. I just think it’s kind of funny.
