Planning what to wear

Monday

final1499522049796

A long sheer top from Monki, which my sister generously donated from out of her closet, my favorite 3/4 length Vila leggings (the wide waistband! the opaqueness!), a pink metallic choker from Primark, and Vagabond wedges. Pairing with NYX Liquid Suede in Soft Spoken. Red or pink eyeshadow? Not sure yet.

I love wearing pink with my bright red hair.

Tuesday

final1499522164195

Another pair of them leggings, I’ve got an army’s worth, wearing with an oversized V-neck tee from H&M in a petrol type color. Another color I think goes brilliant with my current hair color. I wear it back to front, because…why not? Or because low cut necklines isn’t my thing, unless it’s on the backside. Adding the biggest hoops, frilly choker and a pair of wedges I’ve had just about forever. May they last for years to come.

Black lipstick??

Wednesday

final1499522199416

Time for some shorts! My favorite type from H&M, again, I’ve got just about an army of them, all different colors (..although, I do have 2 of the black ones..), a floral top from Gina Tricot, which makes me hate Gina because it needs ironing, and shrank in the wash, but the pattern I am so in love with! A lace type choker, Mackintosh necklace and canvas platforms from ASOS. I’ll wear the shorts with some comfort waist, sheer leggings from H&M and the IsaDora Majestic Mauve lipstick.

Thursday

final1499522236846

Second pair of short, stripy 3/4 sleeve top, wee Primark cross shoulder bag and a dark red NYX Liquid Suede, pair of Vagabond sneakers. Any excuse for this bag. And yes, I always wear my shorts with sheer leggings, because my legs are pale, which would equal an outfit which just isn’t black enough. Can’t have that.

Friday

final1499522313885

Oh hell, let’s do more shorts while it’s still warm enough; pair with a striped vest from H&M, oversized plain black tee on top, paisley choker, yellow platforms and bag, because gawd I love the matching apparently.

Unless. Unless I rethink the yellow with the red hair. In which case this is an option:

final1499522286896.jpg

A favorite dress from Forever 21 in Berlin. It has to be the best Forever 21? It’s the only Forever 21 I’ve ever bought anything from. I’ll pair it with a long sheer cardigan, H&M leggings, and the usual choker + Mackintosh, eyeshadow curtsey of Sleek’s Vintage Romance.

And that’ll get me through the work week, leaving only the weekend and gym wear.

How many hoodies + sweatshirts does one person need?

ONE. The one you keep in your gym bag for after workout.

TWO. Band merch. Really depends how many bands you like. I just like the one. Think we’ve established that.

THREE. The one for that one time you were underweight and needed children’s sizes, and was really cheap to boot (i.e. bought on sale).

FOUR. The one for when you thought bright colors were great idea. Yeah, that one time.

FIVE. One that is long and under which you can fit another long sleeve. For when it’s cold out and you want to go out walking. You might want it it two sizes/colors. Because. You walk a lot?

SIX. That one you just love. Actually you need three of it. Different sizes/colors. And it was on sale.

SEVEN. Long one for Saturday mornings. In the winter.

EIGHT. That one you wear when visiting your parents. Because that’s where it’s at. It’s bright orange. Which might also be a reason it’s still there…

NINE. Camouflage print. From the men’s section. Just waiting to embarrass some guy because he’s wearing the same hoodie as an old lady. So basically, one for laughs.

TEN. A grey one from Monki. Because grey goes great with your red hair. Bonus points for long enough to cover upper thighs, but sleeves that are just the right length, and a pocket for your walkman phone.

ELEVEN. Short, wide, with lizards. Did I mention need?

TWELVE. Pink one. Because. Goes great with your red hair. Let’s not talk about the stupid text H&M thought it was a great idea to print on the sleeves.

THIRTEEN. Wolf. That you don’t wear much because it ruins all of the black vests you wear under it.

FOURTEEN. One from Primark that you just could not buy because of nostalgia.

FIFTEEN. Distressed one. Because it makes you feel like Oliver Sykes. Never mind that it’s from Top Shop and not Drop Dead.

SIXTEEN. Animal print.

SEVENTEEN. Best purple color ever.

EIGHTEEN. A warm one. For the coldest of winter.

NINETEEN. Long one with ears. Because you’re about 5 years old.

TWENTY. One with a cat on.

Let’s say that’s all of them. Let’s say I only wear hoodies + sweatshirts. Ever.

Yea.

Let’s.

A discussion on a recent H&M purchase

Don’t you just love it that regular stores, such as H&M, stocks band tees? I recently made this little find in the men’s section:

final1494703120385

A BMTH tee with a big fucking bird on + one Manson tee from the Smells Like Children era (♥♥♥) that I found in the men’s section when I was looking for a new hoodie (how else does one find a reasonably sized hoodie??)

Forgot all about the hoodie. Manson!? BMTH!? In regular nice-to-the-touch material?! GET IN MY CLOSET NAOW.

Despite being an overgrown fangirl, I don’t own a lot of merch. For that very reason. The quality of merch is just disappointing. Or maybe it’s not quality, but the fabric used is often unpleasant and fit horrible, no matter what size you get. (Apparently making a regular tee is an art?)

I’d be more than happy to live my life in merch if it’s a fabric that’s pleasant on the skin. Because it makes sense for me to support the groups I like in any way possible. Even if I much prefer the strategy used by Neubauten known as the Supporter Project.

Band tees at H&M, makes me happy no end. Sure, the selection of bands isn’t great. Unless you like Metallica, GN’R and/or Nirvana. …which I suppose most people do. Well, beside the point.

The point is. Why is whether or not H&M and the likes should be allowed to stock band tees a topic of discussion?

Is it because it makes life too easy?

Is the problem that little girls will be able to wear what you wear and that would somehow make you uncool by association…? Is that it?

The way I see it, it’s just one more way for your fave band to make a living. If people who don’t even like your fave band also throw money at them, well then that’s great right? Means they can keep making the music even if they don’t have the biggest audience. You should be happy?

Or or could it because it can be interpreted as false advertisement? That liking a band is a skill and only those in possession of this skill should be allowed to wear the merch? In which case, where should you draw the line? Do you have to love also their very first demo? And how do you deal with the records the band itself doesn’t like much anymore?

This is a nonsensical discussion.

Personally I’m jealous. I also want to wear merch of bands I don’t know/like. I mean I only wish I could look past the fact that however much I’ve tried I do not like Metallica. Their merch tho, not so bad looking. Mainly because that logo, it was a stroke of genius. But you could not pay me.

If H&M keeps this up I won’t have to shop elsewhere ever. Makes life simple. In short, I approve!

Treat yourself Tuesday

I accidentally had a treat yourself Tuesday yesterday. In no way planned.

I started by accidentally getting to work ridiculously early. This wasn’t the treat. The treat was, because I was so early, I could leave early. Which was good, because I needed groceries anyway, and get sis a present or two.

First stop, was in no way H&M, but somehow it just always pulls you in. Or me at least. I’ve been wanting a wire basket to store my palettes in, finally found a good-sized one:

final1489512928747

Admittedly not all of my palettes, but all of my most frequently used ones.

First stop was actually the tea shop, but I’m not going to show you bags of tea. But I will tell you what flavors I got: one black citrus chai tea, and one green peach flavored. I ♥ Kahls. Their tea selection is unrivalled.

I also visited the alcohol shop, a.k.a. Systembolaget. Got myself one small bottle of one of my fave rosé wines, Santa Ana, and it’s organic too!

If you’ve been here before, you might recognize Crudo, another fave, white wine obvs. and also organic. Will try to save for sis’s birthday becauseee…she hasn’t tried it and it’s great. (Yes, wine reviewer, it’s so in my future.)

final1489513025642

My current kryptonite tho, is Lagerhaus. They’ve got so many lovely little things. This is me showing serious restraint:

final1489513100305

I love their shower cream, soap and cleaning products. Because look at the simplicity of the packaging! That, and they smell lovely.

I also got two prints: one moon phases, and one misty forest. I cannot get enough of misty forest! It’s basically what I spend all of my trips between work and home staring at, but apparently that’s not enough. I think I’m saving them for when I move tho.

Some useful bits: straws, glass food container (I’m trying to phase out my plastic food containers, apparently one at a time?), hand gel that’s supposed to smell like coconut but I can’t really say it does, in other words, the hunt to find a hand gel to replace Carex moisture plus continues, and finally, I got this clipboard thing that’s supposed to work as a frame.

Followed this up with a nice dinner while watching Leila’s latest vlog. I had an avocado + edamame seasoned with this lovely spice mix called sesame wasabi and flake salt, one red pepper, the type that is called snack pepper in Swedish, it has a longish shape and is just a little tastier than the regular type, plus, two slices of Finn crisp and a glass of that rosé. Thought I had a picture, but as I found out when there was just a few edamame left, I didn’t. JFC. It was very instagrammable! The greens, red and blush. Yes well.

I’ll show this instead: final1489513570047

Sis bought me two Anton Corbijn prints recently, this is one of them. So that was why I was getting the clipboard thing. I adore Anton’s work, almost as much as I adore Mackintosh.

Oh who am I kidding, I adore them both the exact same amount. (Where am I even going with this??)

I did also get some bits for sis, but I’m keeping it secret for now.

Final words: successful outing even if I do feel somewhat guilty about the amount of money spent. I’m trying to not be so wasteful and I’ve been doing so well. Until now.

Yes well. Long as it’s not a habit, it’s fine, right?

Current face; A review

I’ve settled into a makeup routine and can’t be bothered to try much in the way of new. It goes something like this:

Base

No7 airbrush away pore minimising primer. Smells a bit weird, but def pore minimising!

NYX dark circle concealer. I’ve got a No7 under-eye product as well which is way better. Probably because it targets my specific age group. Just trying to use the NYX one up. It’s alright.

Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion for old people. It’s. It’s too good. If I leave it to set, which I like to do, it makes blending really difficult. I’ll go for a cheaper one next time.

Lumene matte control oil-free foundation. I can stand for a lot of shit as long as it’s the right shade. Lumene is always a good fit for me in terms of shade. Not that this is shit. But it’s not great. Considering it’s matte control oil-free, I’d expect it to not have melting issues, which it does. I seem to remember liking their blur foundation better?

GOSH prime n’ set powder. This stuff is brilliant! A keeper for sure. The only thing keeping me from throwing the Lumene foundation out the window.

NYX setting spray. I use this to keep cheek product in place. It does that just fine.

Cheeks

NYX high definition blush Taupe + Coraline. Taupe under the cheekbone, Coraline on the apple. Taupe is the best shade blush ever. I’d forsake all of my other blushes for it, hands down.

Makeup Revolution highlighter from the Chocolate Vice palette. I used to think it was wicked. It either wasn’t or something’s happened to it. Not that it matters, I’ve got the Sleek Solstice palette, only highlighter you need in your life.

Eyes

I’ve finally settled on eyebrows; they’re just not for me. I was going back and forth, sometimes drawing them on, sometimes not. Last time, I just hated the brows so much I wiped them off before the end of the day. Despite not having any base products to repair the damage of wiping them off (I was at work). I’m not saying stop doing your eyebrows, it’s just I feel more like myself without. That’s all.

I’ve even cut my brows to make them appear more sparse.

Eyeshadow though! One simply cannot wear too much eyeshadow.

My goal is always to look even more hollow of eye. One of the many perks of growing old; it just becomes easier!

I start by creating a barely visible halo around the edge of the main eyeshadow, often using one of the orange shades in the NYX palette Color Riot.

I love pairing the orange with green. I recently bought a trio of green shadows from H&M, their high impact shadows; they were on sale for 10 SEK/piece, irresistable price! Especially since these are without a doubt some of my favorite shadows; the color payoff does not disappoint.

I use Stayin’ Olive all over the lid, add Everglades to the outer corners and finish off by contouring the eye with some Mesmerize Me, which is so dark green it’s practically black.

With this combination, if you don’t blend properly, you end up looking like a dirty child.

I’m not going to lie. It happens.

Inner corners: an ancient mono shadow from Makeup Revolution called BASE! Another favorite. May it last forever.

And then just finish off the eyes with some mascara, Natural Collection waterproof on top of a NYX lash primer.

Opened a fresh tube of my regular H&M mascara a couple of weeks ago, it promptly proceeded to make my eyes weep and weep and weep sooooo..in desperate need of a new cruelty-free mascara for sensitive eyes. Wish me luck!

As for eyeliner. I should wear just a wee bit. I really should. It’s just if I start putting it on I’ll never stop. So never mind that.

Lips

NYX Lingerie in Corset. Not that I don’t like my bold lips anymore. It’s just…I can’t be bothered to take my makeup off when I go to the gym (work ⇒ straight to gym), and I’m OK with wearing makeup to the gym, but a bold lip would just feel all sorts of wrong.

Generally leaves me looking something like this:

All and all. No improvement in this area of my life. The list is not getting any shorter.

A week in life; December 2016

Monday

Tried a new route to work; no street lights nor road marks, make sense considering darkness reigns for 6 months a year around these parts (????). This was followed by 4 restarts of computer to be able to access my home directory. Such fun! Cheered myself up by buying a Christmas jumper at H&M. Will wear all future Christmases until sequins fall off.

final1482177945669.jpg

Did I watch Lily Melrose and got good ideas? Yes I did.

Tuesday

Hair treatment! Washing of the hair! Only thing on my mind.

Used this lovely treatment from Lush:

final1482265085924.jpg

The scent is kind of Christmasy too (i.e. cinnamon). In general in my life, there is not enough Lush scent. I really want to live near a Lush shop. Right by. Next door.

…there might be one other thing on my mind. Glasgow. When can I go back to Glasgow? Anyone good playing anytime soon?

Wednesday

Do you know what day today is? Do you do you?? It’s the day it starts getting lighter! How I have waited for this day. If the world made any kind of sense THIS would be a holiday. It’d be THE holiday.

So by the end of the year it’ll be…approximately 10 more minutes of daylight than today. Only slightly discouraging. At least it’s stopped getting darker.

To give you an idea of the level of darkness around these parts: sunrise is currently 9.21 and sunset is 14.13. It could be worse.

But it could also be better.

Thursday

Trying to work from home. It’s going great.

ska%cc%88rmavbild-2016-12-22-kl-09-14-03Pondering if they’ll have my head if I translate hejsan as hiya.

Friday

A mere 4 hours of work today, followed by a pre-lunch workout class.

You’d think a person would be able to focus for 4 hours. Not so. I can barely focus for 4 minutes. I blame the text. BIRCH algorithm. k-means. Modified cluster feature. Euclidean distance measure. DTW barycenter. Discrete Cosine Transform. Topped with poor grammar. /wants to die

Saturday

Trying not have too many tasty alcoholic drinks becauuuse…I’m going to the gym tomorrow. I ♥ the gym. Currently more than wine. That’s just all sorts of wrong.

final1482670908156
Glass of wine + rum glögg & ginger beer + vegan Christmas plate. Currently no idea why anyone would eat anything other than roasted kale, regardless of  day of the year

Sunday

Gym! It wasn’t quite this empty, but nearly.

final1482671013162.jpg

Tomorrow is the day of getting new trainers. Because I’ve yet to encounter a pair of trainers where the cushioning lasts longer than one semester. And I need good cushioning.

TWENTY FOUR. Favorite quote

I like quotes. This is a good one.

TWENTY FIVE. Dream job

THB. I would love it if someone would pay me to write. Or read for that matter. …which is kind of what I am paid for… but I’d like to work with different type texts. Fiction would be neat. Or feminist texts. Text written by academics generally makes me want to off myself tho.

EIGHT. Top 5 movies

I’m not big on movies, but these are some of the movies I’ve watched repeatedly:

  1. Pride & Prejudice. Yes the Keira Knightley version. LOVE it.tumblr_mfgsuk84aj1rca6fpo1_400
  2. 10 Things I hate about you. Requires no further explanation.giphy
  3. One Day. Because I love an unhappy ending. Bonus points for Edinburgh.one day.gif
  4. Catching Fire. It just speaks to me more than any of the other parts of the story. Could be because of Jenna and her ax. Or just Jenna, ax or no ax.tumblr_mwqylpifiv1rdz3y0o7_250
  5. Becoming Jane. Because Austen?tumblr_mw42zdhcgy1sgz6hmo1_250

NINE. 5 things you’ve learned this year

  1. To not wash my hair. Every. Single. Day.
  2. To not straighten my hair. Every. Single. Day.
  3. There are other places in the UK you could well visit. Even if nothing is quite like Glasgow.
  4. Intuitive can and should be added to; sleep, food, workout, reading.
  5. I’ve wasted YEARS not using colored eyeshadow. I ♥ colored eyeshadow.

Let’s also throw a What I wish I would learn already in there: WHEN eyes are just weeping, weeping, weeping, as they sometimes do, don’t even try to put eye makeup on. Just let it go. And remember to stare less at screens. JFC.

TEN. Makeup of the day

Or at least makeup of a day.

You know how I love my oranges. This is, as of Friday, officially my go-to look; mix some of the orange shades I have in my possession, no eyeliner, H&M Maximalist mascara, the rest sort of varies, but this day I went with brows (pomade + shadow) and the IsaDora lip pen in Bohemian, and NYX taupe blush.

Most of the week was just a struggle on account of too much language reviewing making my eyes just weep off whatever I put on. FUN.

ELEVEN. Weekend highlights

On a Tuesday…? You know what, I’m going to save this one for next weekend when I’m actually doing something, other than what I usually do. Don’t get me wrong, I love my weekends, but there aren’t exactly anything going on that could be described as highlights.

TWELVE. Top 5 beauty products

I’m going to focus on makeup, because…well I love makeup don’t I?

  1. H&M mono eyeshadows. Dirt cheap, excellent color range, and pigmentation is ace, what more can you ask for?
  2. H&M mascara. New fave is the Maximalist mascara. Gives you a messy look and it works for people with sensitive eyes.
  3. Sleek highlighter quad Solstice. I love my Makeup Revolution highlighters, but this, well it’s just better still, innit?
  4. NYX Liquid Suede in Cherry Skies. Which always leads me to think of And the sky was cherry black. Anyone else? No?
  5. Makeup Store black/brown mono shadow I’ve had much, much longer than you should keep makeup. It’s brilliant as eyeliner sub tho. Sure it’ll last me a lifetime.

THIRTEEN. Places you want to travel

glasgowalphabetmaprosemarycunninghampress

  1. Glasgow.

I’ll stretch as far as places that present no difficulty traveling to and where bands play that I want to see. But mostly, I just want to go to Glasgow. Oh I’ll explain this to you. Eventually. And when I do, I’m sure you’ll agree that there’s really no point in going anywhere else ever. Promise.

FOURTEEN. Tips for a new blogger

Oh who am I and what do I know really? But I guess the following are a few tips:

  1. Try to write as if you’re writing to someone. If you can have a specific someone in mind, all the better. (Keep having to remind myself of this.)
  2. Don’t change the standard layout too much unless you’re really good at web design. You’ll just end up with a mess of a layout, all cluttered and not reader-friendly. You don’t need that.
  3. Don’t center the text of your posts. We don’t do that because it decreases readability.
  4. Purely selfish tip: don’t focus on one thing only. (I prefer blogs with a mixed content.)
  5. Write/blog because you think the act in itself is FUN, not because you feel you owe it to someone (your readers, z.B.). If you’re struggling to find the time it means you’ve got other priorities and that’s OK too.
  6. Don’t update as often as I do. It’s fun for no one (except yourself).

End of week; Summary

This week I’ve been loving

» Salvation by Editors
» Broken Lungs by Thrice
» That we’re closer still to the end of October, counting down the days!
» The Sleek highlighter palette Solstice, I mean just look at its shiny self:

final1475001577958.jpg

» Vlogtober! You just wish some people would do vlogs on a regular basis. E.g. Leila Buffery.
» Roxane Gay’s Bad Feminist, JFC I am so happy I abandoned The Queen of the Damned to start on this. Was putting it off because I was afraid it wouldn’t read well; but I was madly in love by the end of the prologue. We’re going to have to get back to this wonderful read at a later time.
» This outfit

final1475513825130.jpg

Appropriate work attire; CHECK! PS. Loving this jumper from H&M despite the fact that it smells so strongly of chemicals that I’m no convinced I will get cancer. Or at least terrible allergies. This is after washing. Few more washes will surely solve this problem..?
» Crudo; best glass of wine I’ve had since discovering Fumées Blanches. This one, it’s not even my fave Sauvignon Blanc, and I bought it purely because there’s an octopus on it. Octopus! (Did I mention poor impulse control?) It is so good, soo citrusy and nice.

And on that note.

Weekly wrap up; Birthday week

Like the introvert I am I don’t particularly like to mention my birthday at all. Might draw attention to myself. The. Horror.

In this context though, I feel it needs to be mentioned. Because I set out to have just a little bit of a decadent week. So you know, I did this on purpose.

I started by ignoring my reading challenge and reread 2 of my favorite booksBlixa Bargeld’s Europa kreuzweise and Tiffanie DeBartolo’s How to kill a rockstar. The latter is one ridiculous novel, and from a feminist POV it’s… well garbage is probably an appropriate word, if you want to be nice you’d say it’s problematic, regardless I do love it.

Bargeld’s book always makes me want to have a glass of wine, a glass of wine, a glass of wine. So I did. Have wine. Many glasses.

And apparently, there shall be more wine. Because sis gave me my fave type wine glasses.

final1475432271285.jpg

Watched the No more shall we part recording session documentary for the 5784th time. The Blixa again, main reason to watch this. His dancing, his pin stripe suit + fuchsia tie, his throwing a fit when The guitar is not in my headphones.

Then I bought lots of makeup I don’t need. A matte Sleek palette + the ever so popular Sleek highlighter palette Solstice, as well as two NYX Lingerie; Beauty Mark + Corset. Having tried it all out, I was very happy with my purchases.

final1475001662478

Provided me with a new fave combo makeup; the shade Orbit from the Sleek eyeshadow palette + the NYX Lingerie in Corset. Fave makeup of the week easy.

While at H&M, I just couldn’t resist buying even more makeup. Necessity doubtful: one H&M yellow matte eyeshadow and 2 H&M mascaras. I ♥ H&M as Blixa would say. In Europa kreuzweise. If he liked H&M at all. I’m suspecting no. PS. mascaras work for ppl with sensitive eyes + if you want to buy CF. Just saying.

If I bought clothes while at H&M? Do you have to ask? 3 tops + 1 long cardi, and then also 1 pair of low-waist jeans from Monki (please come back in style, this high-waist shit does not work well for me); which is practically H&M if we’re being honest. No shorts tho, boo. I really wanted more shorts. Wanted; not needed.

On Wednesday, instead of a workout and dinner, I had a few pieces of liquorice + big glass of wine → early bed. Zero fucks given. And I’m sure the best way to treat a migraine.

Treated myself to some straightened and volumized (is that a thing?) hair. I’ve missed my hot tools. I ♥ hot tools.

9 o’clock workout on Saturday morning. Might sound awful but it is my fave. I’d do it every week if I lived in the same city as this gym. Bonus: they played My Chem at the workout. Finally! A track that makes sense.

I ordered books; part 2 in Carol Goodman’s Blythewood series, Johanne Hildebrandt’s EstridLiv Strömqvist’s Uppgång & fall – in addition to which I was gifted 4 books.

final1475431907802.jpg

Yesss. That might just be the final nail in the coffin for my reading challenge. I’ve got all these books to read! I ain’t got time for no challenge. I’ll see if I can be creative, but if no, then the challenge has got to go.

Soundtrack of the week:

New discovery via the Spotify Discover weekly; track that convinced me: Salvation. Really, my soundtrack should have been vi är så nära nu, det är så långt kvar; i.e. Den brända jorden by Jonathan Johansson. Because that’s what it feels like. This month cannot end soon enough.
