Things to do on a Sunday #3

A tag! A tag on a Sunday after a grueling week that just about sucked all the life out of you, pretty much all I can manage.

Natural response to a horrible week: thoughts of escape. To anywhere but here.

A travel tag it is! This one is blatantly stolen from LaurenEllen.

Where was your first plane to?

Apparently, my parents thought it was v. v. important for me and my brother to experience flying at an early age; we flew to Stockholm. Must have been..six? Seven?

Then there was a huge gap of about 10 years until I ever set foot on a plan again. And I went to Bordeaux of all places. And by myself. Did the trip go smoothly? Obviously no!

Where have you travelled to that you would love to visit again?

I like repeats. I also like to be able to plan, which is way easier if you go somewhere where you’ve been before. You know I like to go to Glasgow. Like every time. But because that is such an obvious choice…

I’ve been craving Prague lately. What’s holding me back is if I’m going to travel, I want to see some band play. So far no luck.

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or car?

I find the actual vehicle is of less importance than the surrounding circumstances. And in Swedish this would be known as jag är så jävla dryyyg. But honestly; I’m fine with planes as long as there are no delays, no luggage missing, the airport isn’t crazy crowded. Trains can also be good. You can move around and I always feel safe in trains, and they generally take you to the center of the city. But there are often delays and the trip itself already takes such a long time.

Car would be my least favorite. You can’t read, traffic, general feeling of being unsafe. And it takes such a lot of time.

Favorite travel website?

If you just keep going back to places you’ve been before, you don’t really need a travel website, do you?

Where would you travel to just eat the food?

Food is always a main reason for any trip I feel. I would travel any place that offers a decent selection of vegan eats. I hear Edinburgh have upped their game when it comes to vegan eats. Makes me more interested in Edinburgh than I have been for a while.

Is there a place you would never go again?

Stockholm. I never want to go to Stockholm. Honestly, at this point, I’d prefer going to Gothenburg. But as long as you live in Sweden though, you can’t really avoid visiting Stockholm I don’t think.

Do you prefer the window, aisle, or middle seat?

I used to love window seats. But then you’ve been trapped between the window and some male passenger who’s fallen asleep and just will not wake up one too many times it just looses its appeal. I will pick aisle every time.

How do you pass the time on the air plane?

Talk to sis, sleep, listen to music, read book, stare out window.

Best not think about traveling any more, because I’m getting myself a huge mortgage, I won’t be going nowhere for a while. Probably. Unless there’s some band I really, really need to see.

October blog challenge part 2 of 5

Time for part 2 of the October blog challenge! You’ll find part 1 here.

EIGHT. Top 5 movies

I’m not big on movies, but these are some of the movies I’ve watched repeatedly:

  1. Pride & Prejudice. Yes the Keira Knightley version. LOVE it.tumblr_mfgsuk84aj1rca6fpo1_400
  2. 10 Things I hate about you. Requires no further explanation.giphy
  3. One Day. Because I love an unhappy ending. Bonus points for Edinburgh.one day.gif
  4. Catching Fire. It just speaks to me more than any of the other parts of the story. Could be because of Jenna and her ax. Or just Jenna, ax or no ax.tumblr_mwqylpifiv1rdz3y0o7_250
  5. Becoming Jane. Because Austen?tumblr_mw42zdhcgy1sgz6hmo1_250

NINE. 5 things you’ve learned this year

  1. To not wash my hair. Every. Single. Day.
  2. To not straighten my hair. Every. Single. Day.
  3. There are other places in the UK you could well visit. Even if nothing is quite like Glasgow.
  4. Intuitive can and should be added to; sleep, food, workout, reading.
  5. I’ve wasted YEARS not using colored eyeshadow. I ♥ colored eyeshadow.

Let’s also throw a What I wish I would learn already in there: WHEN eyes are just weeping, weeping, weeping, as they sometimes do, don’t even try to put eye makeup on. Just let it go. And remember to stare less at screens. JFC.

TEN. Makeup of the day

Or at least makeup of a day.

You know how I love my oranges. This is, as of Friday, officially my go-to look; mix some of the orange shades I have in my possession, no eyeliner, H&M Maximalist mascara, the rest sort of varies, but this day I went with brows (pomade + shadow) and the IsaDora lip pen in Bohemian, and NYX taupe blush.

Most of the week was just a struggle on account of too much language reviewing making my eyes just weep off whatever I put on. FUN.

ELEVEN. Weekend highlights

On a Tuesday…? You know what, I’m going to save this one for next weekend when I’m actually doing something, other than what I usually do. Don’t get me wrong, I love my weekends, but there aren’t exactly anything going on that could be described as highlights.

TWELVE. Top 5 beauty products

I’m going to focus on makeup, because…well I love makeup don’t I?

  1. H&M mono eyeshadows. Dirt cheap, excellent color range, and pigmentation is ace, what more can you ask for?
  2. H&M mascara. New fave is the Maximalist mascara. Gives you a messy look and it works for people with sensitive eyes.
  3. Sleek highlighter quad Solstice. I love my Makeup Revolution highlighters, but this, well it’s just better still, innit?
  4. NYX Liquid Suede in Cherry Skies. Which always leads me to think of And the sky was cherry black. Anyone else? No?
  5. Makeup Store black/brown mono shadow I’ve had much, much longer than you should keep makeup. It’s brilliant as eyeliner sub tho. Sure it’ll last me a lifetime.

THIRTEEN. Places you want to travel

glasgowalphabetmaprosemarycunninghampress

  1. Glasgow.

I’ll stretch as far as places that present no difficulty traveling to and where bands play that I want to see. But mostly, I just want to go to Glasgow. Oh I’ll explain this to you. Eventually. And when I do, I’m sure you’ll agree that there’s really no point in going anywhere else ever. Promise.

FOURTEEN. Tips for a new blogger

Oh who am I and what do I know really? But I guess the following are a few tips:

  1. Try to write as if you’re writing to someone. If you can have a specific someone in mind, all the better. (Keep having to remind myself of this.)
  2. Don’t change the standard layout too much unless you’re really good at web design. You’ll just end up with a mess of a layout, all cluttered and not reader-friendly. You don’t need that.
  3. Don’t center the text of your posts. We don’t do that because it decreases readability.
  4. Purely selfish tip: don’t focus on one thing only. (I prefer blogs with a mixed content.)
  5. Write/blog because you think the act in itself is FUN, not because you feel you owe it to someone (your readers, z.B.). If you’re struggling to find the time it means you’ve got other priorities and that’s OK too.
  6. Don’t update as often as I do. It’s fun for no one (except yourself).

This week

…been obsessively listening to Architect’s Untitled. Resorting to B-sides; this fixation of mine is bound to be over aaany day now.

Also caved and donated to Martlets Hospice, because I needed Murray MacLeod’s Gone with the Wind cover:

https://www.musicglue.com/the-xcerts/products/embed/gone-with-the-wind-architects-cover-/

And I’m sure you need it too.

I generally only donate to animal related charity, because I have issues with the human race. I believe someone called us a waste of breath, an apt description I would say. (What do you mean taken out of context??)

…I’ve accepted that I’m a person of little sleep and have been going to bed at all sorts of hours. I call it intuitive sleeping. Intuitive is pretty much the word of the year for me.

…made some of the next-to-final preparations for some going away I’ll be doing in October and November. Only a few more things to book closer to the actual dates. E.g. decide when to go back home, reservation at Café Andaluz, bus from Edinburgh airport to Glasgow. Cannot. Wait.

the platforms I ordered finally got here. Been eyeing these beauts for months and months, no idea what I was waiting for. Love me a good pair of platforms.

roobin's

And apparently they will come in handy because I just got standing tickets for Bring Me in Stockholm. FFS. I thought I was the only old person going who wanted seats. Dammit. But as long as people aren’t crawling around the stage floor I should be able to see -something- (yeh I know, I best start praying now for ppl to not be crawling around the stage floor, because that will happen).

my fave post on social media has been the playlist DanArchitects posted on Wednesday.

Guy knows how to make playlists, we’re talking 11+ hours. Dutifully listened even though I could tell from a glance that the majority of tracks – not my cup of tea. Did, however, lead to me discovering The Black Queen (not included in the playlist, found it while practicing my stalker skills, I’m trying VERY HARD to not be creepy tho, e.g. you can’t go following ppl on Spotify just because you like the music they make; if you like the music they make you follow THE BAND, OK? Yes, HI, trying to talk some sense into myself here).

Aaand, even though it’s not my cup of tea, I keep going back to listen to it. Desperate for some new input? Maybe.

…my go-to look has been bold lip + glasses. Love the NYX Cherry Skies Liquid Suede:

Severely disappointed with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania tho. Does not apply well, dries out, and reapplying is just not advisable. And I wanted it so much. You’ll look like a dirty kid by the end of the day. And you’ll be asked for ID while buying wine despite being well over age.

Roddy? Or Thrice?

What would you choose? These guys in Edinburgh?

Pro
– More convenient date
– Scotland!
– Seen them before, much enjoyed
– I love this song. LOVE.

Con
– I worry that their music is going in a direction I’m not a fan of (I’ve already been to one such gig this year, I was not happy)
– I’m already scheduled for Scotland in the fall, I worry I’ll get bored with Scotland
– Haven’t listened to much lately, according to my last.fm stats

Or these guys in London?

Pro
– Not seen before
– Listened to quite a bit lately (I mean, we’re not talking BMTH, but you know, for being another band)
– Not been to London in a while, and have no plans on going, so just for variation?
– Could buy lots of stuff I don’t need while I’m at it

Con
– Not a terribly convenient date
– London (only marginally better than Stockholm)
– Actually extremely inconvenient date, I might have to fake illness

If only I could learn to love Stockholm. Or Gothenburg for that matter. Anywhere at all closer to home. But och alas, that is not my destiny. Apparently.

Or. I need a different job allowing lots of going away. Or better still, a job involving me not having to be at the office. How does one go about finding such a job?
